9TV to be rebranded CNN Philippines

9TV, formerly Solar News, will be rebranded as CNN Philippines, 9news Philippines reported on its website October 16. The venture is a part of a joint partnership between Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific and Nine Media Corporation.

Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific is a Time Warner company that creates and distributes award-winning brands throughout Asia Pacific including CNN and CNN International.

“The global news gathering power of CNN combined with the local perspective Nine Media Corporation brings, enables us to provide first-class news and information to millions of Filipinos in a way that we have not been able to previously. I couldn’t be happier to welcome CNN Philippines to the CNN family,” Jeff Zucker, CNN Worldwide president, said in a statement concurrent with the announcement.

As a part of this venture, 9News will share CNN’s vision, mission, and values. The television program is expected to offer “a dynamic combination of local and international news as well as current affairs, feature programming and documentaries that keep audiences informed and inspired.”

Aside from bringing CNN Philippines on free television, 9 Media Corp. will also supply content for the website CNNPhilippines.com.

Both the television program and the website will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2015.

CNN Philippines is the latest addition to the CNN International family which includes CNN Turk, CNN-Indian Broadcasting Network, CNN Chile and CNN Indonesia.

 

European Union Peace Journalism Awards

The European Union Peace Journalism Awards is now open for applications.

All print, broadcast, photojournalists and campus journalists may apply for the awards.

The EU Peace Journalism Awards aims to ” (1) Raise awareness about the impact and value of peace and the peace process in general and to generate information and a deeper understanding of the Bangsamoro peace process in particular; (2) Acknowledge the role of Philippine journalists as agents of peaceful social transformation through balanced, responsible, culturally-sensitive and conflict-sensitive reporting on peace and conflict stories; and, (3) Generate awareness, interest and appreciation for EU-supported activities in Mindanao in the context of the peace process.”

The peace journalism awards are seeking  entries in the following categories: print media, broadcast media, photojournalism, campus journalism and government advocacy peace projects.

All entries should adhere to the theme of peace in its broad sense and must have been originally published in a media outlet in the Philippines from 1 August 2014 until 31 May 2015. The entries may be in English, Filipino or any local dialect with English translations.

Deadline for submission is on May 31.

The launching of EU Peace Journalism Awards followed the historic signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro.
