2014 Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards

The United Nations is accepting entries for the 2014 Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards.

The Ranan Lurie Political Cartoon Awards aims to “promote the highest standard of excellence in political cartoons depicting the spirit of the United Nations.” Any professional editorial cartoonist may apply for the awards.

Entries should be editorial or political cartoons published between September 2013 and October 15, 2014. They should reflect the fundamental UN principals of mutual respect and friendship among nations, the importance of human dignity and environmental responsibilities among different nations.

Applicants for the award must submit a reproduction of the published editorial cartoons with the name of the publication, language and date of the publication and newspaper reprints. Reprints must be translated into English if it was written in another language.

The deadline for applications is  November 15.

18th UP Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop awards fellows

The University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC) has concluded the 18th Graciano Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop. A total of 26 fellows attended the week- long workshop, which time was held from October 3 to 8 at  Plaridel Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

Nineteen of the fellows are journalists and educators while seven are students.

The student fellows were April Anne Benjamin, Beata Regina Carolino, Christelle Jane Delvo, Ana Coritha Desamparado, John Nelvin Lucero and Kiersnerr Gerwin Borja Tacadena from UP-CMC ;and Ma. Julienne Clare Gregorio from St. Paul University-Quezon City.

The lone foreign felow was Sriram Arulchelvan, a professor from Anna University in Chennai, India.

This year’s workshop focused on reporting corruption in media and governance.
