ICRC Visa d’Or Humanitaire Award
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is accepting nominations for the 4th Visa d’Or Humanitaire Award.
The award aims to honor outstanding photojournalists who “have succeeded in highlighting the issue of respect for the medical mission in war and other violent situations.”
All professional photographers and photojournalists may be nominated or may apply for the award.
Applicants must submit a photo report composed of seven to 10 photos showing “humanitarian consequences of armed conflict, highlighting the complexity of accessing, protecting and assisting victims.” A low resolution and a high resolution photo and a word file of the captions must be put on CD.
A completed application form, a curriculum vitae, and report on CD must be posted at Humanitarian Visa d’or award – ICRC” – Délégation du CICR en France – 10 bis passage d’Enfer –75014 Paris – France.
Deadline for applications is June 11.

Thomson Reuters writing and reporting news course
Thomson Reuters is accepting applications for its writing and reporting news course.
All working journalists or contributors to print, broadcast or online media organizations with at least two years’ experience may apply for the training program which will be held from August 4 to 8 in London, United Kingdom.
The week-long course centers on actual news writing and reporting as practiced by global news agencies like Reuters. The training aims to “help journalists recognize their good habits and provide them the time and space to work on their weak points, within a mentored framework.”
Interested applicants must submit a biography of up to 250 words outlining journalism career; recent work samples with brief summary in English (if necessary), broadcast journalists may submit scripts and a brief summary; and, a statement not more than 500 words describing factors affecting work as a journalist and how the course can benefit you.
The funding for the course includes travel expenses to London, accommodations, allowance and online modules.
Deadline for applications is June 2.

Journalists Memorial Rededication Ceremony
Newseum is inviting journalists to attend the Journalists Memorial Rededication Ceremony on June 9.
The Journalists Memorial honors journalists who died or were killed in pursuit of news. The memorial began in 1996.
10 journalists will be recognized in the ceremony. They are Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev (Novoye Delo, Rusia), Mikhail Beketov (Khimkinskaya Pravda, Russia), Mick Deane (Sky News, Egypt), Ghislaine Dupont (Radio France Internationale, Mali), Yasser Faisal al-Jumaili (Freelance, Syria), Rodrigo Neto (Rádio Vanguarda and Vale do Aço, Brazil), Sai Reddy (Deshbandhu, India), Fernando Solijon (DXLS Love Radio, Philippines), Claude Verlon (Radio France Internationale, Mali) and Olivier Voisin (Freelance, Syria). The rededication will honor a total of 2,256 reporters, photographers, broadcasters and news executives from around the world, dating back to 1837.
Kathleen Carroll, executive editor and senior vice president of The Associated Press, will be the keynote speaker in the memorial.
