COPC two-day photojournalism workshop
The Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) is holding a two-day photojournalism workshop.
Froilan Gallardo, a member and photojournalist of MindaNews, in cooperation with COCP is inviting participants for a two-day photojournalism workshop at Philtown Hotel Cagayan de Oro City. The workshop is open to all government information officers, amateur photographers, students and photojournalism enthusiasts.
Interested participants must register early because of the limited number of slots. There will be a Php500.00 registration fee for government information officers and Php300.00 for amateur photographers.
Aside from the workshop proper which will be on May 24, all participants will be asked to join a “photowalk” on May 25.
Participants should bring their own DSLR cameras and laptops during the workshop.
The workshop is in line with the 32nd year celebration of Press Freedom week.

Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative fellowship
Moment Magazine is accepting applications for the Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative fellowship.
The Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative aims to encourage journalists to write in-depth stories on ‘deeply ingrained prejudices’ in the modern world. The initiative is named in honor of the Wall Street Journal reporter who was held and killed by terrorists while doing an investigative report on the alleged links of a shoe bomber to Al Queda in 2002.
All journalists between ages 22 and 35 may apply for the fellowship.
The fellowship will provide the participants journalistic support. Fellows will be mentored by Wolf Blitzer, Linda Feldmann, Martin Fletcher, Glenn Frankel, Bill Kovach, David Lauter, Charles Lewis, Clarence Page, Robert Siegel, Paul Steiger, Lynn Sweet and David Wessel.
Chosen fellows will also be given financial support for the completion of a project. The final project, a story, will be published in Moment Magazine and another media partner.
Interested applicants must submit their name, date of birth and contact information; a resume; snippets of published work on print or online and at least one complete story published; a story proposal, including a narrative plan on how to execute it; and two recommendations, one from the editor and the other is from an expert or a scholar about the content of the proposal. All submissions must be emailed to [email protected].
Deadline for application is on June 7.

Thomson Reuters business and financial reporting training program
Thomson Reuters is accepting applications for business and financial reporting course.
All journalists in Southeast Asia with at least two years’ experience and who are proficient in spoken English may apply for the training program which will be held on June 23 to 27 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The week-long course aims to “equip journalists with the skills necessary to cover basic financial and business news in key areas such as economics, commodities, energy, companies and financial markets.”
Interested applicants must submit a biography of up to 250 words outlining journalism career; recent work samples with brief summary in English (if necessary), broadcast journalists may submit scripts and a brief summary; and, a statement not more than 500 words describing factors affecting work as a journalist and how the course can benefit you.
The funding for the course includes travel expenses to Hanoi and accommodations.
Deadline for applications is May 26.
