JVOJS 2022: Bulatlat receives 2022 CMFR Award of Distinction; ABS-CBN’s Karmina Constantino named Marshall McLuhan Fellow

CMFR HELD the Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar online for the third time on Thursday, October 27. The program is supported with a grant from the National Endowment for Democracy and with the cooperation of Ateneo de Manila University.

The Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar featured a panel of seven journalists from television and online news sites. The panelists discussed issues related to democracy and press freedom in the country.

These journalists join the roster of Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Fellows, a community of media practitioners who participate as resource persons in various journalism events and programs organized by CMFR and its partner organizations around the world.

After the panel discussion, CMFR presented the Award of Distinction and a check of PHP50,000.00 to Bulatlat, while the Embassy of Canada announced its choice of ABS-CBN’s Karmina Constantino as Marshall McLuhan Fellow for 2022. 

The Canadian Embassy has sponsored the Marshall McLuhan Fellowship, named after the Canadian communication theoretician, for 25 years. It consists of a two-week familiarization and lecture tour of Canadian media and academic organizations, and later, a lecture tour of Philippine universities under Embassy auspices and with the support of SunLife Financial, Inc. The Embassy selects the McLuhan Fellow from the roster of JVO panelists each year.
