THE ANC current affairs talk show “After The Fact” aired its last episode on March 30, 2022.

“After The Fact” featured straightforward interviews  to “dissect the most important issues of the day” and “hold officials to account”. It was launched in May 2020 and aired 223 hour-long episodes nightly, featuring interviews with experts, policy-makers, government officials, candidates for the May 2022 national elections, among others.

Host Christian Esguerra wrote on Twitter on March 30,  that “No thanks to the prevailing political climate, tonight will be the FINAL episode of #ANCAfterTheFact,”. The announcement dismayed viewers of the show, who wondered why the program was suddenly ended. Journalist Paterno Esmaquel II, news editor at Rappler reacted by saying that “Unfortunately, power detests scrutiny. And courage can make others afraid.”

In his closing message to viewers, Esguerra asked them to be guided by facts in the midst of the proliferation of “fake news” and disinformation. As of this writing, ANC had not explained why the show had been cancelled.

This is not the first time a program hosted by Esguerra has gone off the air. After the shutdown of ABS-CBN in 2020, ANC’s “Matters of Fact” was also terminated on September 30 of the same year. This followed an announcement from Esguerra that he had been “shown the door”, like many ABS-CBN employees at the time.

Esguerra announced that he will now be focusing on his independent weekly podcast, “Facts First”, which airs on his YouTube channel and other streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play.
