Mindanao journalists threatened over illegal logging story


CMFR/Philippines – Four journalists and a newspaper publisher from the cities of Butuan and Cagayan de Oro were threatened for their story on illegal logging industry in Mindanao.

CMFR/ Philippines – A three-man news team from a foreign television network has been missing since 12 June 2012 in Jolo, Sulu, an alleged stronghold of the kidnap for ransom group Abu Sayyaf. Jolo, Sulu is approximately 951 kilometers south of Manila.

CMFR/PHILIPPINES – A radio commentator and station manager in Bugasong, Antique received a death threat in his Facebook account last 18 May 2012. Bugasong, Antique is 412 kilometers south of Manila.

Local electric cooperative exec files libel charges against correspondent


The Masbate City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended the filing of libel charges against a journalist accused of maligning an official of the provincial electrical cooperative. The journalist claimed he has not been informed that a libel complaint had been filed against him at the prosecutor’s office.

Threats against Mati-based broadcaster continue
