Regional free expression group launches blog

Southeast Asian Press Alliance (SEAPA), a regional free press and expression alliance in the region, launches its own blog today.

“We’ve been wanting to do this ever since we hosted the Free Expression in Asian Cyberspace in Manila last April. We now appreciate not only the potential convenience and efficiency of blogging, but more important, the capability this brings to elicit participation and build a stronger network–a more active community–with whom we can work for press freedom in Southeast Asia,” wrote SEAPA executive director Roby Alampay to colleagues explaining why SEAPA had decided to come up with a blog.

Established in Bangkok in November 1998, it aims to unite independent journalists’ and press-related organizations in the region into a force for advocacy and mutual protection. The Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility is a founding member of SEAPA.
