BusinessMirror owner acquires 34% of RPN-9
Philippine Business Daily Mirror Publishing Inc. owner Antonio L. Cabangon Chua has acquired 34 percent of the RPN-9 through Solar Network TV, the BusinessMirror reported August 21.
Cabangon Chua bought all the 34 percent share of Solar Network TV in RPN-9. The acquisition made the businessman a major share holder of the former government-owned broadcast company.
A BusinessMirror report quoted Philippine Business Daily Mirror Publishing Inc. president Benjamin V. Ramos about the said acquisition. “We have acquired the share of the Tiengs through Solar, which has a 34-percent stake in RPN9. We were then elected as directors, and Ambassador Cabangon Chua will be elected as chairman in the next board meeting slated on September 1.”
The report also said that RPN-9 will be branded anew as Aliw Channel pending approval by the board.
Earlier this year Aliw Broadcasting, a broadcast media empire owned by Cabangon Chua, and the RPN-9 signed an agreement to widen each other’s reach. RPN and Aliw agreed that the latter will provide content for RPN amplitude modulation (AM) stations allowing Aliw’s DWIZ to be simulcast on RPN radio stations nationwide.
Cabangon Chua also owns the tabloid Pilipino Mirror.
More information about the acquisition can be found at the BusinessMirror website.
