Suspected gunman in killing of journalist arrested
CMFR/Philippines – The suspected gunman in the November 2013 killing of radio commentator Joash Dignos was arrested in Valencia City, Bukidnon province, on 13 June 2014.
Valencia City is approximately 1,500 kilometers south of Metro Manila.
Aside from the murder of Dignos, suspect Dionesio Daulong was also wanted for one count of attempted murder, two counts of attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms.
Police said Daulong also led a mass escape of prisoners in Valencia City Jail last September 2013.
Six men shot Dignos on 29 November 2013, Friday night, in Valencia City. The police charged Daulong for Dignos’s murder on 5 December 2013.
Since 1986, 145 journalists and media workers have been killed for their work in the Philippines; only 14 cases have led to the conviction of gunmen. No mastermind has been convicted.
