Unidentified Man Fires Shots at Bombo Radyo Station

CMFR/PHILIPPINES – An unidentified man aboard a red pick-up truck fired shots at the Bombo Radyo station in General Santos City on 3 July 2019. General Santos City in South Cotabato is 1626 kilometers south of Manila.

According to a report in DxES Bombo Radyo Gensan website, its security personnel saw the pick-up near the station in Amao Road, Barangay Bula at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As the truck approached the station, the driver pulled out a gun and fired. The guards were able to return fire but the truck sped away towards downtown. No one was hurt in the incident, but three of the rounds fired by the suspect damaged the station building.

Station Manager Jonathan Macailing said the shooting could be due to its reports on the KAPA issue. KAPA (Kabus Padatoon or poor will be rich) Community Ministry International Inc. is a Surigao del Sur-based religious group President Duterte has ordered shut down because it is allegedly running an investment scam.

Another Bombo Radyo report noted that the incident happened while an anchor was commenting on the issue.

In early 2019, KAPA filed an online libel case against the station and its managers for reporting a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) advisory warning people against investing in KAPA. The Prosecutor’s Office of Sarangani dismissed the case on 26 April 2019 due to lack of probable cause.

Macailing said that this was not the first time that the station and its employees have been threatened and harassed.
