Obit: Roth, 91

British journalist Andrew Roth died of prostate cancer in London on Aug. 12. He was 91.

Roth was born in New York in 1919 but has acquired British citizenship by 1966.

In 1945, however, he wrote for leftish-liberal magazine in the United States, Nation, and occasionally for (former) Manchester Guardian.

He has also worked as political correspondent for local publications Manchester Evening News from 1972 to 1984 and the New Statesman from 1984 to 1997.

Roth also produced several books about Westminster personalities. Among them were Enoch Powell, Tory Tribune (1970) and Wilson: Yorkshire Walter Mitty (1977).

Roth was known as the founder of the Westminster Confidential, a local weekly publication, in the same area where he worked until he died.

Roth also wrote obituaries of politicians of the British Parliament for The Guardian.
