Joseph, 73
FILIPINO BROADCASTER John William Joseph Jr. died of prostate cancer on October 6. He was 73.
Joseph was more popularly known as Johnny Midnight. He became famous for his radio show in dzBB, Midnight Connection, where he allegedly cured people through âtoningâ and âpyramiding.â Joseph would chant incantations at midnight for 15 minutes. Oyo, 62
NIGERIAN JOURNALIST Oluremi Oyo died of cancer last October 2. She was 62.
Oyo started her media career as a reporter at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, then Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). She later became editor and managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and Nigeria bureau chief of the Inter Press Service Global News Agency. Oyo served as secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE). She was later elected president of the guild for two consecutive terms, from 1999 to 2003. (Oluremi Oyo, former News Agency of Nigeria boss dies, Premium Times)
Oyo was also a recipient of Nigeriaâs national honor, the Officer of the Order of the Niger.
In a statement on Oyoâs death, the Nigerian Guild of Editors said: âOyo will long be remembered by the NGE for her exemplary leadership qualities, which brought the Guild out of a near comatose state, with about 200 members and transformed it into a vibrant association of senior editors with more than 400 members.â (Remi Oyo is dead, The Sun)
