Carpio, 39

FILIPINO JOURNALIST Relly Carpio died from a respiratory disease and cardiac arrest last August 13. He was 39.

Funkhouser, 84

AMERICAN JOURNALIST and editor Barbara Funkhouser died last August 15. She was 74.

Funkhouser was the first female editor of the El Paso Times. She worked for the Times from 1960 to 1990 and served as editor from 1980 to 1986. (Memorial service set for veteran journalist Barbara Funkhouser, El Paso Times)

In a statement on Funkhouser’s death, former president of the El Paso Times Tom Fenton said: “She was a great lady with tremendous integrity and was really concerned about doing the right thing for everyone involved. She was good and you always knew where she stood. She always stood for the right thing.”
