Milne, 72

SCOTTISH BROADCASTER John Milne died on July 14. He was 72.

Milne joined BBC Scotland in 1971 and became the presenter for the programs Good Morning Scotland (GMS) and Reporting Scotland.

He anchored GMS for more than 20 years. (Former BBC presenter John Milne dies, BBC News Scotland) 

He also worked for DC Thomson, The Scotsman newspaper, and the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation where he honed his interviewing skills. (John Milne, Herald Scotland)

He also played an important role in the documentary series “Current Account.” 

Milne was best known for his coverage of the Piper Alpha disaster and the Lockerbie bombing.

In a statement on Milne’s death, BBC Scotland’s director Ken MacQuarrie said: “John was renowned for his excellence in journalism over the many years he worked at BBC Scotland. Throughout his long career here, he maintained the highest journalistic standards, becoming a familiar face and voice to our audiences as presenter of programmes such as Reporting Scotland, Good Morning Scotland, and Newsnight Scotland.” (Obituary: John Milne, journalist, The Scotsman)

Reporting Scotland presenter Jackie Bird also said: “He was Reporting Scotland. I was in awe at working with someone with such a reputation, but he turned out to be warm and welcoming with a fantastically dry sense of humor.
