Morillo, 32

FILIPINO GRAPHIC artist Giovanni “Bam” Morillo died in a bus crash in Bontoc, Mountain Province last February 7. He was 32.

In 2005, Morillo was assistant colorist for the visual effects team of the movie Awaken and became part of the cast of Lasponggols, a finalist in the 2005 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. (Bam Morillo, Solar News creative head, rides in peace, Solar News)

Solar News’ production chief Ferdie Aboga said of Morillo: “Bam never gave me problems, what he gave me were solutions and plans. He was not just a manager; not just a graphic artist—he was a visionary. He led by example, he led by showing them the way.”

Morillo is survived by his wife Liezel and two daughters.

 

Henry, 53

BRITISH JOURNALIST and editor Georgina Henry died of cancer last February 7. She was 53.

Henry was media correspondent for The Guardian in 1989 and went on to become its deputy editor. She also created and edited The Guardian’s “Comment is Free,” which “marked the first use by a mainstream news organization of digital technologies to embrace a wide variety of voices and responses.” (Georgina Henry, Obituary, The Guardian)

In 1995, Henry and fellow journalists Eve Pollard and Rebekah Wade founded Women in Journalism, an organization of women journalists working across all written media. (Founding member of WIJ Georgina Henry – 8 June 1960 to 7 February 2014, Women in Journalism)

Henry is survived by her husband, Ronan, and children, Finn and Molly.
