Dumor, 41

GHANAIAN JOURNALIST and news presenter Komla Dumor died last January 18. He was 41.

Dumor began his career as a traffic reporter and morning show host of Joy FM. He worked there as a host before he moved to London in 2006 and joined the BBC’s African service. (Komla Dumor obituary, The Guardian)

In 2003, Dumor won the Ghana Journalist of the Year award and was named by New African magazine as one of the 100 most influential Africans in November 2013.

In a statement on Dumor’s death, BBC’s Director of News James Harding said: “He had such an infectious enthusiasm for life, for Africa, for the story. BBC Global News director Peter Horrocks said: “Komla was a leading light of African journalism—committed to telling the story of Africa as it really is. Africa’s energy and enthusiasm seemed to shine through every story Komla told.”

Dumor leaves a wife and three children.
