Obit: Mus, 59

Dutch journalist Conny Mus died Aug. 19 of heart failure. He was 59.

Mus, one of the best known broadcast and television reporters of The Netherlands, was also the chairman of the Foreign Press Association in Israel. He was chairman of the organization on and off since 1990.

In 2007, Mus became known as the first foreign journalist to interview Ismail Haniyeh, a Hamas leader, after he rose to power in the Gaza Strip.

Mus started as a freelance journalist in 1982, reporting for Jerusalem, Israel. He also worked for RTL Netherlands (Radio Télévision Luxembourg-Netherlands) at its inception in 1989.
