JEER OF THE MONTH: To purge or not to purge

JEERS TO the Philippine press for not looking into the abolition of 10 supposedly “redundant” agencies which include the Mindanao Development Council, the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Global Warming, among others.

The press did also not explain why certain non-performing government-owned and controlled corporations are also being eyed to abolish.

Malacañang officials said in their press briefing that those moves aimed at cutting the government expenses as the earlier purged agencies “have redundant functions” while the others, which are still being debated such as the National Food Authority belong to the “losing” or poor performing agencies.

BusinessWorld however tried to provide what will be the benefit of the abolition, among them the generation of savings for the government of P304.62 million (“Palace abolishes 10 agencies in cost-cutting move”, Sept.24-25)
