FILIPINO PHOTOGRAPHER Oscar “Oca” Estabaya succumbed to liver cancer last Oct. 23. He was 62.
He worked for the newspaper Malaya. After his retirement, Estabaya was a freelance photographer. His wife Marilex said he also worked for The People’s Journal—where they met. He was also a contributor to Police Files Tonite and the defunct Good Morning Philippines.
According to colleague Jun Mendoza, a photojournalist at The Philippine Star, Estabaya covered sports and was seen regularly at the games of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Estabaya was a member of the PBA Photographers Club and the Sports Press Photographers Association of the Philippines.
