Dissecting dengue
Cheers to the news organizations that provided background information about the deadly dengue fever, which has claimed hundreds of lives these past months.
GMA-7’s Reporter’s Notebook explored last Aug. 23 the dengue onslaught in the Philippines. It provided a case study of a child victim, the costs of treating a victim, and interviews with Dr. Eric Tayag of the Department of Health’s (DOH) National Epidemiology Center and Eleanor Jara, executive director of the Council for Health and Development.
The Philippine Daily Inquirer devoted a page on tips for people infected with the dengue virus and how to avoid getting an infection. (“What we can do to fight dengue”, Aug. 28, p. A14)
From January to Sept. 24 of this year, there were 83,459 cases of dengue with 467 deaths, the DOH said in a statement last Oct. 7.
