Alleged news release

Jeers to Malaya for reporting the alleged association of Escalante City, Negros Occidental Mayor Melecio Yap with the New People’s Army (NPA) which caused the National Police Commission to order the suspension of Yap and to withdraw his administrative control and operational supervision over the Escalante City police.

The Aug. 15 article “Mayor hit for close NPA ties” reported the decision of the Napolcom to remove the supervisory powers of Yap over the Escalante City police due to  his alleged NPA ties.

The article was informative in terms of Napolcom’s order, but  did not get the reaction of the mayor, despite the seriousness of the accusation.
