Accusations

Jeers to Malaya Business Insight for reporting the complaints of some 100 Iranian dentistry students before the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) against faculty members, security guards, and students of the Manila Central University (MCU), but without giving the latter’s reaction to the complaints.

Its Sept. 21 story, “Iranian studes file racism raps against university” (p. B4) reported the accusations of Iranian students against MCU’s professors, students and staff, saying they were being tagged as “terrorists and terrorist sympathizers.”

The complainants also alleged they were accused of cheating during exams, discriminated against in the grading system, and required to sell tickets to parties and seminars on pain of expulsion, among others.

Despite the seriousness of the accusations, Malaya failed to report the side of the accused and merely said that “university officials could not be reached for comment.”
