Timelines
Cheers to abs-cbnNEWS.com for creating a timeline about the Philippine Airlines (PAL) labor issue. (See: “Interactive timeline: PAL labor woes”, Dec. 15, 2010)
The timeline, which was built using a web-based timeline software called Timeglider, started with a March 4, 2008 report from Agence France-Presse about the United States Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to downgrade the Philippines from Category 1 to Category 2 as PAL, also the flag-carrier, failed to meet international safety standards.
Other events included in the timeline were also provided links to news articles previously posted in the same news website, which are helpful in providing proper context as the PAL labor issue does not only affect the aviation industry but also the country’s economy, and the tourism and labor sectors.
This interactive timeline, to be sure, is nothing new. Other news website also used web-based timeline software for other issues such as the Ampatuan Massacre (See: GMA News Online‘s “TIMELINE: The year since the November 23 Massacre”, The Philippine Star’s “The Maguindanao Massacre, a timeline”, among others.) and the Vizconde Massacre, (See: Star’s “Vizconde massacre timeline”) among others.
