Tackling the economy

CHEERS TO the Philippine Daily Inquirer for devoting a full page on the economy and measures the Philippines should undertake, including tax reforms, to achieve inclusive growth.

In a Q and A format published in its “Talk of the Town” section, the Inquirer interviewed Karl Kendrick Chua, World Bank Philippines senior country economist, on his views about the Philippine economy and why there should be changes in the current tax revenue system to make it simpler, equitable, and efficient. Part of these reforms should include the passing of the freedom of information bill and enhancing budget reporting, Chua told the Inquirer. (“Q&A with WB Economist”, Dec. 28, 2014, p. A12)

The paper should consider holding regular Q and A sessions with various mainstream and non-mainstream economic experts so that the public would have a more thorough understanding of the country’s economic situation.
