Something to think about
FOR ITS year-ender, Davao Today gave local government authorities something to think about. The paper looked into the housing problems of urban-poor dwellers in Davao City, explaining why the local and national governments are hard put in raising funds for housing programs.
On Jan. 2, the news site said, “A more disturbing aspect of the problem, however, is that even if houses were made available to poor Filipinos, they don’t have enough income to pay for these.”
“In the meantime, the demolition of houses in slum areas continues, displacing hundreds of families,” it added (“Davao’s Homeless Face a Bleak 2007”).
