ESPARTERO, 34
PHOTOJOURNALIST JIOVANNI Espartero of the Visayan Daily Headlines passed away in Bacolod City on Aug. 5 after suffering a head injury when he figured in a motorcycle accident two days earlier.  He was found bleeding and unconscious on the shoulder of a national highway on Aug. 3 and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared comatose.
Espartero was an active member of an anti-corruption citizens’ group.

PETE ROA, 67
Veteran broadcaster Pete Roa died of pneumonia and cardiac arrest on Aug. 9, at the Capitol Medical Center, Quezon City.  He was 67.
Roa began as a disc jockey when he was still in high school in the 1950s and then hosted several television shows in the ‘60s, including ABC 5’s Dance-O-Rama and ABS-CBN’s The Baby O’Brien Show.  He also became an actor and produced and directed TV shows.  Among the shows he directed were the talk show Two for the Road and children’s program Romper Room. He was ABS-CBN’s administrative manager until 1971.  He also anchored Tita Boots at Tito Pete on dzXL in 1993.
Roa established a talent management firm (THINC) and an advertising company (SPADS) in the mid-1970s.  He was the husband of actress Boots Anson Roa.
