Front page PR for lothario drink

JEERS TO the Philippine Daily Inquirer for publishing on  its front page a story that carries to new heights reportage on trivia. The subject: how several lawmakers seem to “go crazy” over a certain energy drink.

In its July 16 issue, the article, “Lusting House lotharios rave Nitro better than Viagra,” talked about how according to two male Luzon representatives, an energy drink became the “latest buzzword in the session hall and executive lounge” as “a number of lawmakers lined up to stock up on this fruity syrup in nifty, brown bottles.”

The article also referred to the members of the house who consume the energy drink  as “lotharios.” A Lothario, as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “a man whose chief interest is seducing women.”

The report was promoting the energy drink, declaring at one point that “the House swears (the energy drink) is more effective than Viagra, Cialis and other male potency pills.”

Quoting one of its sources, the report said, “A lot of congressmen swore it was the best they’ve ever tried. They felt no dizziness, blurred vision or heart palpitations (commonly associated with other male potency drugs), and the effect lasted at least two days.”

The report also discussed how some lawmakers tried to negotiate with the manufacturers of the energy drink for “exclusive distribution in the country” and detailed how it should be consumed, although it mentioned that it is not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
