Fire protection? What’s that?

CHEERS TO ABS-CBN 2’s TV Patrol for reviewing the current state of fire protection in the country and for looking into the unused 2 billion pesos budget of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) since 2009.

TV Patrol reviewed the present state of fire protection in the Philippines in a three-minute special report aired March 20. The report showed the lack of fire protection equipment in much of the country.

The report also said that the more than two billion peso budget of the BFP had not been used since 2009 according to the 2012 Commission on Audit (COA) report. The BFP Officer in Charge explained that the funds were not used because of changes in international fire fighting standards, but the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that there were problems in the bidding process for the equipment.

The report was well presented and supported with statistics and interviews with DILG and BFP personnel.
