‘Correct way’
CHEERS TO the Manila Bulletin for a story on how to best refer to people with disability.
In a March 26 feature (“Don’t say the ‘M’ word”), the paper warned media against using derogatory terms such as “mongoloid”, “abnormal”, and “retarded” when referring to persons with Down Syndrome or any other form of disability.
A sidebar on the appropriate terms to use from the World Health Organization (“The correct way”) when describing or referring to people with disability accompanied the story.
