Comprehensive report
CHEERS TO Aksyon for a comprehensive report on an allegedly hazardous road construction project that will connect Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.
In a May 2 report, Aksyon reported on the local government’s objection to the road construction project. Abra de Ilog Mayor Eric Constantino said because of the construction, electric posts of the National Power Corporation along the mountains affected by the construction had been destroyed.
Meanwhile, according to a study of the University of the Philippines National Institute of Geological Sciences, the road construction is susceptible to landslides.
The project worth P400M started in 2007 and stopped after the term of former president Gloria Arroyo ended. The construction resumed January this year, but because of requests from local government officials, the Department of Public Works and Highways ordered a temporary halt to the construction.
