Journalism award on ‘Mediterranean diet’ opens
A nonprofit organization has announced the start of a competition on “the Mediterranean Diet” for journalists writing on healthy eating habits.
The K. Dun Gifford Journalism Award organized by Oldways is open to all journalists who covered this year’s theme and whose articles were published between January 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011.
Oldways is a non-profit organization which makes a wide variety of educational activities, conferences and materials about healthy eating, drinking, lifestyle and the traditional pleasures of the table available to consumers, scientists, the food industry, health professionals, chefs, journalists and policy makers.
The journalism award for food reporting was created as a tribute to Oldways founder and visionary K. Dun Gifford who was also a food enthusiast and advocate. Gifford believed that “positive and practical solutions, grounded in science, traditions and delicious foods and drinks, would help address the threatening tsunami of chronic diseases.”
The grand prize winner will go on a weeklong, all-expense paid trip to the Mediterranean Region to experience its culture, food, and atmosphere firsthand.
All applicants must submit a well written or well-produced entry related to this year’s selected theme. Entries must be mailed to the K. Dun Gifford Journalism Award, c/o Oldways, 266 Beacon St, Boston, MA 02116, USA, or e-mailed to GiffordAward@oldwayspt.org before the deadline on October 1, 2011.
