Rotary Club of Manila Journalism Awards

THE ROTARY Club of Manila (RCM) honored several journalists and media organizations during its annual RCM Journalism Awards held on June 6, 2019 at the New World Makati Hotel Ballroom.

Established in 1966, the Rotary Club of Manila Journalism Awards aims to recognize “outstanding contributions of individuals in the tri-media: print, television and radio thus encouraging the proper development of Philippine Journalism.”

In 1972, however, the Rotary Club of Manila stopped giving awards. According to RCM, since there was no real freedom of the press, there was no sense in holding the awards. The awards were relaunched 14 years later in 1986.

RCM Immediate Past President Jimmie Policarpio, who chairs the journalism awards committee, said the selection of awardees went through a rigorous process in which names of candidates from various Rotary clubs were submitted to the panel and deliberated upon by its members. A shortlist was then presented to their general assembly for approval.

Print Category

  • Cecille Suerte Felipe (The Philippine Star) – Newspaper Female Reporter of the Year
  • Paolo S. Romero (The Philippine Star) – Newspaper Male Reporter of the Year
  • Philippine Daily Inquirer – Newspaper of the Year

Television Category

  • Tina Panganiban-Perez (GMA 7) – Television Female Reporter of the Year
  • George Cariño (ABS-CBN 2) – Television Male Reporter of the Year
  • TV 5 Network – Television Station of the Year

Radio Category

  • Grace Mariano (dzXL) – Radio Female Reporter of the Year
  • Raymund Dadpaas (dzRH) – Radio Male Reporter of the Year
  • dzRH – Radio Station of the Year
