Noel Vero Perfecto, 67

VETERAN JOURNALIST Noel Vero Perfecto succumbed to heart attack Saturday, February 20. He was 67.

Perfecto was a reporter for the state-owned People’s Television Network (PTV-4) for three decades. He also worked for the Philippine Broadcasting Services-Radyong Bayan where he held a radio program entitled Punto Perfecto.

Perfecto had to undergo  triple heart bypass surgery in 1995 and was given by doctors only five more years to live. The veteran journalist, however, managed to survive and had since dedicated his years to further service to the media industry.

Family and colleagues mourned the passing of Perfecto.  Alex Bocobo, PTV-4 General Manager, paid tribute to Perfecto’s commitment to his job. “Mr. Perfecto’s television career with PTV that spanned three decades was marked by dedicated service at a time when outscooping one’s peers was the name of the game. He was always there for coverage, big or small, and he treated every story with the same urgency, persistence, and respect.” (“PTV-4 mourns death of veteran journo Noel Perfecto”,PTVnews.ph, February 22, 2016)

“Mr. Noel Perfecto was to me more than a broadcast colleague. He was a long-time friend since my reportorial days in the 80s. Losing true friends like Noel is like having a sore throat, mahirap magsalita at magpaalam,” said Tito Cruz, Director of PBS-Radyong Bayan. Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Armand Balilo also paid respect to Perfecto. “He was actually one of my mentors in public affairs. He was a partner in the PCG, helping us in our public information campaign. But, most of all, I will miss him because of his friendship.” (“Veteran journalist Noel Perfecto dies at 67,” CNNPhilippines.com, February 21 2016)
