Eric Von, 58
BROADCAST JOURNALIST and commentator Eric Von died of a heart attack on Thursday, Sept. 8. He was 58.
A broadcaster for WNOV-AM, Von has more than 25 years of experience in the industry, starting as a disk jockey before becoming a reporter and anchor, according to wnov860.com. Aside from being a journalist, Von was also a health advocate, founding BrainBrawnBody.com, dedicated to the health and wellness of African American men.
Friends and colleagues mourned Von’s passing. In “Milwaukee radio host, journalist Eric Von dies,” Dr. Howard Fuller of Marquette University said “We lost a tremendous voice in this community, but not just a voice in terms of the radio, but a voice away from the radio program” (wisn.com, Sept. 9, 2016).
Private Industry Council’s Gerard Randale noted how Von was able to bring different people together. “Often times they don’t relate to each other very well. Eric was able to bring them all to the table to have a meaningful conversation about what needs to happen to this community in order to make Milwaukee a better place for everyone to live,” Randel said (“Marquette University celebrates the life of Eric Von,” fox6now.com, Sept. 14, 2016).
A celebration of Von’s life was held at Marquette University on Wednesday, Sept. 14. He is survived by his wife.
