EMMARIEL ARES, a journalist for CDN Digital passed away in hospital on May 11. She was in the Intensive Care Unit for nine days, receiving treatment for injuries sustained when she was hit by a speeding motorcycle. She was 25. 

Ares was headed home after covering a rally in Danao City (Cebu) in the evening of May 2 

She joined CDN Digital in 2023 after graduating from the University of San Jose-Recoletos. Ares covered the police beat and was a member of the Defense-PNP Press Corps. 

The obituary posted by CDN Digital said Ares “told stories with heart and integrity. . .” describing her as   “young and passionate journalist whose dedication, curiosity, and vibrant spirit left a lasting mark on CDN Digital.”

The Freeman in a Facebook post said that Ares’ death is a “devastating loss to Cebu’s journalism community, especially among  younger reporters who looked up to her commitment, integrity, and quiet strength.”
