NUJP Elects New Set of Officers

THE NATIONAL Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) elected its new set of officers on June 9 during its 10th National Congress at the Casa Pura Hotel in Quezon City.

NUJP National Director Nonoy Espina was elected chairperson while Marlon Ramos of Inquirer.net was elected vice chairperson.

The other elected officers are Dabet Castañeda Panelo (ABS-CBN), Secretary General; Raymund Villanueva (Bulatlat), Deputy Secretary General; Jhoanna Ballaran (Inquirer.net), Treasurer; and Ron Lopez (dzMM), Auditor.

The members of the national directorate are Kath Cortez (Davao Today), Gerg Cahiles (CNN Philippines), Sonny Fernandez (NUJP), Kimberly Ngabit-Quitasol (Northern Dispatch Weekly), Virgilio Cuizon (ABS-CBN), Richel Umel (BenarNews Philippines), Justine Dizon (CNN Philippines) and Judith Suarez (NUJP-Tandag).

As part of NUJP’s national congress, the organization held a protest on June 8 at the Boy Scout Circle to condemn the killing of Davao del Norte publisher Dennis Denora, who was shot dead last June 7. Denora is the 11th journalist to be killed under the current administration.
