Manila Bulletin unveils new look
THE MANILA Bulletin unveiled its new look on Monday, October 21 in preparation for its 120th year.
“For the first time in nearly 100 years, the masthead now simply carries the Manila Bulletin name,” the paper said. Previously, it included the year it was established and the phrase “The exponent of Philippine Progress.” These are now on the runner bar below the masthead.
“While nearly radical in its obvious simplicity, this more modern masthead retains several elements crucial to the identity of the Manila Bulletin,” it added. “The new font belongs to the same typeface as the previous logo… At the center is the keystone, a design element that first appeared on the masthead in the 1920s.”
The masthead, the Bulletin said, has changed eight times.
The layout has also been refreshed, with each section having redesigned logos. The Bulletin also changed the fonts used for the articles. Counting down to its 120th year on February 2, 2020, it has been showcasing vignettes of its previous front pages. The Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation was founded in 1900 as a shipping journal. It was then known as the Daily Bulletin. It was incorporated on June 12, 1912 as Bulletin Publishing Company and was re-incorporated 1959.
