Manila Bulletin Names New President and Publisher

THE MANILA Bulletin Publishing Corporation has elected Emilio C. Yap III as its new president and Manila Bulletin editor-in-chief Crispulo J. Icban, Jr. as publisher during its annual Stockholders’ Meeting held July 12 at the Philippine Columbian in Paco, Manila.
Yap graduated from the De La Salle University (DLSU) in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. He holds a doctorate degree in journalism and another in business administration.
Yap started his career in the company in 1994 under the chairmanship of his grandfather, the late Emilio T. Yap, who bought shares of the company from Brig. Gen. Hans Menzi in 1961. He previously held the positions of Director and Executive Vice President for Advertising in the 2000s.
Icban graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in English literature. He has a Master’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University in New York. He was a Nieman fellow at Harvard University from 1965 to 1966.
The newly elected publisher has received numerous awards for his journalistic contributions over more than 50 years. He was named Outstanding Kapampangan by the Pampanga Provincial Government in 1988 and Distinguished Tarlaqueño by the Tarlac Provincial Government in 2003. Icban was Press Secretary to then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The members of the board of directors were also elected during the organizational meeting. They are Basilio C. Yap, Emilio C. Yap III, Crispulo J. Icban, Jr., Francis Y. Gaw, Benjamin C. Yap, and Enrique Y. Yap, Jr.
Also elected as Independent Directors were former Chief Justice Hilario G. Davide, Jr., former Executive Secretary and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo, former Representative Maria Georgina Perez-De Venecia and former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Armando L. Suratos.
The Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation publishes newspapers, journals, magazines, periodicals, books and pamphlets. Among its publications are Balita, Tempo and the Philippine Panorama magazine.
