COLUMNIST LEANDRO ‘DD’ Coronel died Monday, September 3. He was 70 years old.

Coronel was a political columnist for the Manila Bulletin.

While an undergraduate student, Coronel applied for work at the World Bank in Washington D.C., where he became a writer/editor and then senior press officer and spokesman. He is one of only two Filipinos to hold the spokesman position in the Washington, D.C.-based World Bank, of which he was in the staff from 1969 to 1997. While in the US, Coronel wrote the column “Observer” which was critical of then President Ferdinand Marcos. It was published in several Filipino-American newspapers. He is survived by his sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews and his siblings’ grandchildren.
