COMMUNITY JOURNALIST Daniel “Danny” Fajardo Sr.  passed away Monday, September 10. He was 72.

Fajardo founded Panay News in 1987, a daily newspaper in Western Visayas. He served as its editor-in-chief for several years. He also hosted Reklamo Publiko, a radio/cable public affairs program in Iloilo. (“Danny Fajardo, Panay News founder, writes 30”)

Fajardo served several terms as president of the Iloilo Press Club. He was also executive vice president of the Publisher’s Association of the Philippines. (“Panay News Founder Danny Fajardo dies at 72”)

Journalists mourned Fajardo’s passing. “As a journalist, he was relentless and dauntless,” The Daily Guardian publisher Lemuel Fernandez said.

Veteran journalist Herbert Vego said “Danny dreamed that a local daily newspaper would rise in a time that only weekly newspapers existed.” (“Iloilo publisher mourned”)

Fajardo earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science at  Silliman University. He also took special courses on Para Legal Studies at the Manila Times School of Journalism.
