Index on Censorship Freedom of Expression Awards
In recognition of individuals and groups fighting for free speech in the face of danger and difficulty, the London-based organization Index on Censorship is now accepting nominations for its Freedom of Expression Awards 2016.
The four categories for the awards are: 1) arts, 2) digital activism, 3) campaigning, and 4) journalism. Self-nominations are accepted.
The winners will join the Index Awards Fellowship Program in April 2016, which will provide them intensive training and long-term support for their work against censorship for the entire award year. They will also be recognized in an Awards Gala Night in the same month.
The deadline for nominations is on October 19. For more details, visit the Freedom of Expression Awards page.
Humanitarian Photography Award
Professional and amateur photographers are invited to send their entries to the 19th Luis Valtuena Humanitarian Photography Award Competition, which recognizes pictures that capture human rights issues around the world and promote humanitarian values.
The award is a tribute to Medicos del Mundo workers Luis Valtueña, Flors Sirera, Manuel Madrazo, and Mercedes Navarro, who were killed in Rwanda in 1997 and in Bosnia in 1995 while performing their duties as international humanitarian aid workers.
A maximum of 10 photographs taken between January 2013 and October 2015 may be submitted. These photographs may be distinct or form parts of a series, and should not have been entered in any previous competition.
The winner will receive a grant worth 6,000 Euro for a photo project related to the work of Medicos del Mundo. Other entries will be selected for inclusion in travelling exhibitions inside and outside Spain.
The deadline for the submission of entries is November 9. For more information, visit this page.
