THE PHILIPPINE Human Rights Information Center (PhilRights) is inviting professional journalists and citizen journalists, artists, and human rights advocates to submit story proposals on human rights journalism for the PANTAO Human Rights Journalism Fellowship.

PhilRights was established by the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) in 1991 to serve as its research and information center. The fellowship is PhilRights’ contribution to the need to provide “spaces for truthful and change-making journalism.”

PhilRights encourages fellowship aspirants to focus on civil and political rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; and children’s rights. Stories on human rights issues in education, the environment, gender, health, housing, indigenous peoples, labor, and peace and conflict will also be accepted.

The inaugural round that will provide funding for at least one journalistic piece will be held this year. PhilRights will then guide story development “to ensure adherence to the human rights framework and to rights-based approaches in reporting.”

Applicants may submit their stories in traditional long form and other multimedia forms such as photography and audio-visual media. Submitted applications are subject to review and approval by a committee of human rights experts and journalists.

Interested applicants should accomplish the application form here and must submit it on or before July 27.
