THE ATENEO Art Gallery (AAG) and the Kalaw‑Ledesma Foundation, Inc. (KLFI)  are now accepting entries for the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism.

Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism was established in honor of art writer and Art Association of the Philippines founder, Purita Kalaw-Ledesma.

One of the goals of the prize is to get art criticism into the public sphere. Winners will have the opportunity to be contributors to a national newspaper and an international art magazine. The winner of the prize for The Philippine Star will be awarded a regular column to be published twice a month for a year, under the column “Platforms” in the Arts & Culture section of the paper. The winner of the prize for ArtAsiaPacific Magazine will be contributing to this bi-monthly publication, with a total of six articles for a year. In addition, both winners will contribute to Perro Berde, an annual art and culture publication of the Embassy of Spain and the Instituto Cervantes.

To avoid conflict of interest, the participants must not have a regular column or hold an editorial post in any broadsheet or magazine. Regular columnists are not allowed to join but contributors, defined as any person whose written work is published with a byline but not identified as a columnist, may join. Bloggers, defined as writers of online journals, websites, or whose written work is published in electronic social media, may also join.

The entries are to be submitted digitally to puritakalawledesmaprize@gmail.com, with a cover letter stating that the attached Word and pdf file are being submitted to AAG and KLFI for consideration for the Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prizes in Art Criticism.

Exhibit reviews must be submitted digitally as Word (.doc) and pdf file attachments, with no indication of the identity of the writer on the pages where the article is written.

Click here for the Writer’s Profile and Conforme to be submitted as a separate pdf attachment. Other details on the mechanics and the list of exhibitions for review are available here. Deadline for submission of entries is on May 31, 2019, (Friday) at 5:00 p.m.

A panel of jurors will shortlist a maximum of six writers from the submitted entries. From this list, two winners will be chosen by the editors of the partner publications—The Philippine Star and ArtAsiaPacific. Winners will be announced during the Ateneo Art Awards ceremony tentatively scheduled for August 25, 2019 at the Ateneo Art Gallery, Soledad V Pangilinan Arts Wing, Areté, Ateneo de Manila University.
