2016 Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism
The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund is now accepting entries to its 2015 international awards for journalism, which aims to recognize the work of local reporters and freelance journalists in developing countries or nations in transition.
Named after American freelance journalist Kurt Schork, who was killed in 2000 while on assignment for Reuters in Sierra Leone, the Awards consist of a cash prize of $5,000 each to 1) a local reporter who writes about events in his homeland, and 2) a freelance journalist who travels to international conflict zones.
Interested applicants must submit three articles that fall under themes such as conflict, corruption, human rights violations, and other fundamental issues concerning a particular country or region. These articles must have been published in print or online platform between June 1, 2015 and May 31, 2016.
Other requirements are: 1) CV or resume, 2) passport-quality photo, 3) English translation of articles, if necessary, 4) a short statement detailing what the applicant had to do to get his/her story.
Winners of the awards will be recognized in a ceremony hosted by Thomson Reuters Foundation in London on October 27.
The deadline for submissions is midnight (GMT) of May 31. For more information, visit this page.
