Leticia Boniol, 75


LETICIA “LETI” Boniol, an Inquirer.net editor passed away on June 14 due to a lingering illness. She was 75. 

Philippine Daily Inquirer shuts down operations, merges with Inquirer.net


THE PHILIPPINE Daily Inquirer (PDI) announced on Friday, May 2, the merger of its print and digital operations, effective on the first of July this year.

EMMARIEL ARES, a journalist for CDN Digital passed away in hospital on May 11. She was in the Intensive Care Unit for nine days, receiving treatment for injuries sustained when she was hit by a speeding motorcycle. She was 25. 

Inquirer photojournalist Richard Reyes, 34


AWARD-WINNING PHOTOJOURNALIST Richard Reyes of the Philippine Daily Inquirer suffered a heart attack and passed away suddenly on April 9, 2025. He was 34. 

Bulatlat Long-Listed for One World Media Press Freedom Award


BULATLAT, AN ALTERNATIVE media outfit, has been long-listed for the 2025 One World Media Awards under the Press Freedom Award category, marking another milestone in its continued pursuit of journalism in the face of adversity.

Inquirer reporter Julie Alipala, 58


JULIE ALIPALA, who reported on Mindanao for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, passed away on April 3, 2025, after a brave battle with endometrial cancer. She was 58. 

Sheila Villaflores Crisostomo, 54


SHEILA CRISOSTOMO, reporter for the daily newspaper, The Philippine Star, for more than three decades, died on January 15 at the East Avenue Medical Center two days after suffering from a stroke. Her brother, Allan Crisostomo, made the announcement on  Facebook.

NewsWatch Plus granted content archive rights by predecessor CNN Philippines


CNN PHILIPPINES’ content lives on as NewsWatch Plus has been granted the rights to archive CNN Philippines’ content. The media group was formed with journalists who worked for CNN Philippines which closed in January 2024. 

Chino Trinidad, 56


VETERAN SPORTS journalist Manolo “Chino” Trinidad passed away on Saturday night, July 13. The sportscaster suffered a heart attack while on his way to a meeting. He was 56.
