Knight Center for Journalism infographics, data visualization online course
The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, through its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) program, is inviting applications for its online course on data visualization.
The course “Introduction to Infographics and Data Visualization” will focus on “how to work with graphics to communicate and analyze data.”
Interested journalists and other professional may participate in the free four-week course which will start October 6 and will end on November 2. It will be taught by Alberto Cairo, an internationally renowned expert in the field who is also an instructor at the University of Miami.
Participants may spend only four to six hours a week on the course.

2013 Ochberg Fellowship
The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma is accepting applications for the Ochberg Fellowship on violence, conflict and tragedy reporting.
The Dart Center is a project of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. The project offers Ochberg Fellowships to “outstanding journalists interested in exploring critical issues.”
The fellowship is open to all senior and mid-career journalists who are interested in deepening and widening their knowledge of trauma and in improving coverage of conflict and violence.
Interested applicants must fill out the application form at http://dartcenter.org/2013-ochberg-fellowship-application. The applicants are also required to submit a letter of interest, a resume, two relevant work samples and two recommendation letters as attachment to the application form.
10- 15 fellows will be selected to participate in a weeklong program at Columbia University in New York City, USA.
The deadline for applications is on October 11.

GMA International programs win 2013 Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards
GMA Network, Inc. won eight awards in National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications’ (NAMIC) Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards (EMMA).
NAMIC describes itself as an international organization that “educates, advocates and empowers for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry.”
The awards were given to the following GMA International events and programs:
Meet and greet with the cast of Pepito Manaloto – 1st place for the Grassroots category
Bayani Tour 2013 – 1st place for the Social Media category; 2nd place for the Diversity Awareness category
GMA News TV International infokits on Filipino’s overseas – 2nd place for the All Other Media category
GMA 2013 rendition of Philippine National Anthem – 2nd place for the Television category
GMA International’s milestone shirt – 3rd place for the Premium category
GMA International 7th anniversary print ad – 3rd place for the Print category
Proud to be Pinoy 2012 TV Special – 3rd place for the Television Category
The awards mark the most awards won by GMA so far in the prestigious global marketing competition.
The EMMA awarding ceremony will be on October 9 in New York in line with the cable industry’s Diversity Week.
