CHEERS TO Investigative Documentaries for its April 26 in-depth report about security guards. In a country of limited jobs, more than 700,000 Filipinos work as security guards. This is more than the total number of policemen in the Philippines, the program reported. It discussed labor issues involving security guards and noted that, in violation of the law, out of 2,200 security agencies nationwide, 200 are owned by military and police personnel.
The April 26 episode also reported that although Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo is in the House of Representatives, the country’s security guards have never received any benefits from the party-list group and the congressman who supposedly represents the interests of security guards. According to the program’s investigation, much of Arroyo’s funds went to programs, services, and infrastructure projects in various towns in Pampanga.
