New comic strip book by Abrera
Manix Abrera, cartoonist for PJR Reports, will be coming out with his third book, a compilation of his comic strips that appeared in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The book, titled “Die! Evil, Die!”, is printed by Visual Print Enterprises. Launching has been tentatively set for September.
Inquirer tops Lasallian Scholarum, VACC awards
For their “impressive coverage of youth and education issues,” a reporter and a photographer for the Philippine Daily Inquirer won the top prizes in the fourth Lasallian Scholarum Awards last Aug. 17.
Inquirer Central Luzon correspondent Tonette Orejas’s “Law grad gives new meaning to ‘Aeta’” won most outstanding feature for print while photographer Edwin Bacasmas received the top prize in photography for the picture “Life in the evacuation.”
Also that day, another Inquirer reporter, Jocelyn Uy, was cited by anticrime group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption as the outstanding reporter for 2007 during the organization’s ninth anniversary.
Other winners in the Lasallian Awards were GMA-7’s Kara David, cited best in feature for TV for the documentary “Mga batang hiram” and Manila Bulletin’s Nestor Cuartero “A bridge for kids,” who garnered the outstanding feature on DLSU-Manila Award.
The awards, which began in 2004, was established to encourage media practitioners to help the public increase its awareness of youth and education issues.
