Jaime V. Ongpin Awards 2008 now accepting entries
The Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) has begun the search for the contenders in the Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Excellence in Journalism (JVOAEJ) for works published in 2008. The JVOAEJ will recognize the best reports on the following issues: governance and corruption, human rights, the environment, and the financial/economic crisis. The best reports (whether investigative or explanatory) on these specific issues will be selected for the competition.
CMFR is conducting an independent scan to identify qualified print articles and reports. The scanning process makes sure that articles are included for evaluation, whether or not these are nominated. But CMFR is also accepting nominations for the awards, which will be given in June 2009. The nominated reports should have been published from January to December 2008. Community/provincial newspapers must nominate their entries.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the CMFR website (or click here). Please feel free to photocopy the entry forms as needed. Completed forms and photocopies of the reports must be submitted to the CMFR office at 2/F Ateneo Professional Schools Salcedo, 130 H.V. dela Costa St., Salcedo Village, Makati City on or before Monday February 16, 2009. If possible, please include digital copies of the submitted reports. If submitting by mail, please make sure the material will reach CMFR on or before the deadline.
